A Blitz eSIM gives your phone a separate prepaid data line for your trip. You keep your usual SIM and number, while maps, messages, bookings and browsing use the Blitz data bundle. There is no plastic card to swap and no contract to cancel afterwards.
The setup is easier than it sounds. The one setting that surprises people is data roaming: it must be on for the Blitz travel eSIM, because that eSIM connects to a partner network at your destination. Data roaming should stay off for your home SIM. This guide shows exactly what happens after you order and which switches to use.
How Blitz eSIM works
- Choose your destination and data bundle in the Blitz eSIM shop.
- Pay securely. We send the eSIM, QR code and manual installation details to your email address.
- Open the order in the Blitz eSIM app and install with one tap, or scan the QR code from another screen.
- At your destination, select the Blitz eSIM for mobile data and turn data roaming on for this line.
The app route is useful when the QR code is displayed on the same phone you want to use: you do not need a second screen or printed copy. The QR route works just as well when you open the email on a laptop, tablet or another phone.
Before ordering: check these three things
1. Your exact phone supports eSIM
Check the precise model and sales region, not only the model family. An iPhone bought in one country can have different eSIM support from the same iPhone sold elsewhere. Your phone must also be carrier-unlocked. Use our device compatibility checker before paying.
2. The plan covers the whole route
Choose a country plan for one destination or a regional plan when you cross borders. Open the coverage list on the product page and check every country on your itinerary. A regional name is convenient, but the included-country list is what counts.
3. The bundle fits your use
| What you mainly do | Practical starting point |
|---|---|
| Maps, messages and email | 1–3 GB per week |
| Social media, browsing and some calls | 5–10 GB per week |
| Remote work, hotspot or frequent video | 15 GB+ or unlimited |
These are planning estimates. Video, cloud photo backup and hotspot use can consume data much faster than navigation or messaging.
What arrives after checkout
Shortly after a successful payment, the order email contains:
- the eSIM QR code;
- the activation or manual installation details;
- the order reference you may need when contacting support;
- the instructions for using the plan at your destination.
Check the spam or promotions folder if the message is not in the inbox. Keep the order email private: an eSIM QR code is an activation credential, not an image to post or forward publicly.
Option A: install in the Blitz app
Download or open the Blitz eSIM app, sign in with the email address used for the order and open the purchased eSIM. If the device supports direct installation, tap the install button and follow the phone's confirmation screens.
Give the new line a clear name such as “Blitz Japan” or “Blitz Turkey”. A recognisable label makes the mobile-data settings much easier to understand after landing.
Option B: install with the QR code
Open the order email on a second screen or print the QR code. On the phone that will use the eSIM:
- iPhone: Settings → Mobile Service or Cellular → Add eSIM → Use QR Code.
- Android: Settings → Network & internet or SIM manager → Add eSIM. The wording differs by manufacturer.
Scan the code and let the installation finish while connected to stable Wi-Fi. Do not delete the profile if it does not immediately show a local network at home; the destination network may simply be out of range.
The correct settings at your destination
This is the part worth checking slowly:
| Setting | Blitz travel eSIM | Home SIM |
|---|---|---|
| Line enabled | Yes | Optional; keep on if you need SMS |
| Used for mobile data | Yes | No |
| Data roaming | On | Off |
| Automatic mobile-data switching | Off | Off |
Why turn roaming on for Blitz? A travel eSIM normally uses a local partner network. Your phone treats that connection as roaming even though the data is already included in your prepaid Blitz bundle. Turning it on does not create an extra Blitz bill; leaving it off can prevent the eSIM from connecting.
Why keep it off on the home SIM? That stops your usual provider from supplying mobile data abroad. Your home line can often remain enabled for incoming SMS, but calls, voicemail and outgoing messages may still cost money under your provider's roaming tariff.
A simple arrival checklist
- Turn off Wi-Fi so you are genuinely testing mobile data.
- Open SIM settings and make sure the Blitz line is enabled.
- Select Blitz as the mobile-data line.
- Turn data roaming on for Blitz.
- Confirm data roaming is off for the home SIM.
- Disable automatic mobile-data switching.
- Wait a minute, then open a lightweight webpage or maps.
If there is no connection
Do not delete the eSIM. Many QR codes can only be installed once. Try these steps in order:
- switch airplane mode on for 20 seconds and off again;
- restart the phone;
- check the line selection and roaming settings in the table above;
- compare the APN with the details in the order email;
- use automatic network selection first;
- contact Blitz support with the order number and screenshots of the SIM settings.
